SHI-MCI Free Zone Enterprises have appointed CARES to conduct an EIA for the construction of a fabrication yard and the Quay wall within the LADOL free zone in Apapa, Lagos state.

PROJECT SUMMARY
Project start: Jun 2015
Project completion: Sep 2019
Sectors: Infrastructure, Maritime
Project location: LADOL Free Zone, Lagos, Nigeria

SHI-MCI Free Zone Enterprises have appointed CARES to conduct an EIA for the construction of a fabrication yard and the Quay wall within the LADOL free zone in Apapa, Lagos state.

The 120,000m3 fabrication yard will be used for fabrication of the topside of a Floating Production Storage Offloading (FPSO) facility.

The Quay facility which is approximately 410m in length and 10.5m in depth, is planned as a structure where the FPSO can be safely berthed and moored as well as where outfitting of the topside structure can be carried out. SHI-MCI Free Zone Enterprise is a joint venture between Samsung Heavy Industries and Lagos Deep Offshore Logistic Base.

To support this development CARES have been assigned to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) on behalf of SHI-MCI Free Zone Enterprise.

The EIA is being conducted to assess the potential impacts of the project and has been carried out in line with the Environmental Impact Assessment Act 86, 1992.

During the EIA CARES determined the Environmental Baseline through specialist fieldwork and data analysis. Against this baseline the likely environmental effects of the project have been identified, predicted and evaluated.

The EIA has also presented measures to prevent, mitigate and / or offset the significant adverse effects within an Environmental Management Plan (EMP).

The EMP provides a structured programme for the management of the works to ensure that all reasonable and practical measures will be implemented to prevent and/or minimise the likelihood of environmental harm being caused by the project.

CARES continue to support the development of the LADOL Free Zone.
